Evonik announced on July 17 the commencement of production at its new facility. The company's integrated MetAMINO® methionine production base in Mobile, Alabama, USA, has seen the completion and start-up of a newly built supporting methyl mercaptan intermediate production line. This unit is a supporting project for the self-sufficiency of core raw materials for methionine, enabling a closed-loop production operation at the site. With this, Evonik has completed the layout of in-house intermediate production across its three global methionine production hubs in the USA, Antwerp, Belgium, and Singapore.

By relying on on-site production of methyl mercaptan to replace external procurement and transportation, the carbon footprint of the base's DL-methionine products is reduced by 7%. At the same time, it significantly reduces the cross-regional transfer of hazardous chemicals, mitigates supply chain fluctuations and logistics safety risks, and strengthens the stable supply capacity of methionine in the North American market.
